That Death Ray shrapnel was one of the easiest and most effective props I’ve ever created. (More photos here, here [its original appearance, Halloween 2008] and here [CONvergence 2012].) It’s a pirate gun from Twin Cities Magic and Costume that I stepped on and hot-glued together, adding acrylic red, blue and brown paint as I went for the blood effects. I’ve worn this costume a few times (honestly, even if I’m not Penny, people don’t question shrapnel sticking out of your torso), and the shrapnel is remarkably sturdy.
I embellished the sweater myself to look more like Felicia Day’s from the film. The dress is a recent Ragstock find and is super-comfortable. The shoes make the costume, though.
I acknowledge that my hair is entirely wrong for the part. In my defense, when I initially made the costume, I grew my hair out and dyed it bright red. I’m considering buying a red-haired wig to add to my costume collection, though!
